‘…one of the most powerful ways of achieving improvement is through collaboration, with the best schools, settings and leaders supporting those that are more challenged. But it’s not just the school or centre receiving support that improves – providing support gives even the most accomplished teachers and leaders an opportunity to gain new ideas and improve their own practice.’ (DfE, 2012).
There are a number of different ways in which school-to-school support can take place and be brokered. Through partnership, working system leaders, play a key role in the development of others and contribute to the raising of standards and outcomes for children and young people. Schools can access the support of other serving school leaders and professionals who understand local context and current challenges.
Teaching Schools give outstanding schools a leading role in the training and professional development of teachers, support staff and head teachers, as well as contributing to the raising of standards through school-to-school support. Teaching Schools will drive significant improvement in the quality of professional practice, improving the attainment of every child and playing a fundamental role in developing a self-sustaining system.
