Train to teach in a Specialist School

The Sheffield Teaching School Alliance, in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University, are pleased to offer School Direct places for Initial Teacher Training.

Our training will provide trainees with:

  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) including 60 Masters’ Credits.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) from Sheffield Hallam University.

Your training has been developed in close collaboration with Rowan Teaching School, Fusion Group of Special Schools and Sheffield Hallam University.

It includes a 'return Friday' for much of the year where you will attend the University with fellow trainees. In University you will be tutored by specialist academic staff and have the opportunity to explore your own subject knowledge away from the classroom and to reflect on classroom experience with professionals.

As a group of schools we have developed a specialised programme of training which is designed to complement academic input but also to utilise the expertise and strengths of the staff and schools in the alliance.

Trainees will spend two-thirds of the year in a Special School setting. There are eight special schools who offer placements in the Fusion Group providing a range of specialist settings including children with disabilities.

Applications for this programme must be made via UCAS.
