School Experience

Silverdale School can offer you placement days through the School Experience Programme which will give you an insight into our aspirational, inclusive and diverse learning community. A placement with us will provide you with valuable classroom experience.  Our Subject areas are well staffed with a mixture of experienced and new colleagues and all our subject mentors are trained by the relevant universities.  You will have the opportunity to observe teaching in your preferred subject and to talk to teachers about day to day life in a school.

Silverdale School is a highly popular and high achieving 11-18 Secondary School, judged to be “outstanding” in our most recent Ofsted inspection. Located in Sheffield, Silverdale School is the Lead School for the Sheffield Teaching School Alliance and we work in collaboration with both Sheffield Hallam University and University of Sheffield to deliver our highly successful School Direct programmes. We have around 1350 pupils including 390 in the Sixth Form.

We are proud of our diverse school community – over 30 different languages are spoken by our pupils who travel to us from across Sheffield.

If you are considering a career in teaching it is important that you are able to demonstrate your commitment and enthusiasm by gaining classroom experience prior to submitting an application via UCAS.  Completing a placement on the School Experience Programme will support future applications for Initial Teacher Training and, as a large provider of School Direct, give you the opportunity to meet current trainee teachers. You will be eligible to apply for the SEP if you hold (or are predicted) at least a 2:2 degree and are interested in training to teach in a Secondary School setting. You can also apply as an undergraduate if you are in your final year of studying.
